Staying indoors is possibly the best way you can help keep people safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. But what about your physical health?

Can you do workouts without the benefit of gym equipment, jogging trails, and sports venues?

Good news! There are several ways to keep exercising even when you need to stay at home.

How to Work Out at Home

1. Bodyweight exercises

You can do the following exercises in the comfort of your own home without special equipment. But please do some jogging in place or jumping jacks as a warm-up exercise before doing these to avoid any injuries.

  • Crunches
  • Push-ups
  • Planks
  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Wall sits
  • Burpees

Have kids? You can add their body weight to your workout.

Check online for ways to exercise with your children.

2. Workout videos

If you are more interested in cardiovascular exercises to keep your heart rate up and to improve your blood circulation, you can look up cardio videos online. Some are as short as 10 minutes while others are more strenuous 30-minute workouts. Do check what you prefer and can realistically do and then move to more advanced workouts.

If you are more interested in meditative exercises, you can look up yoga videos and choose which one fits well with you. In addition, yoga can also relieve you of the stress of working from home and of what’s happening in the world.

More into low-impact exercises for flexibility, endurance, and muscular strength? Check out Pilates videos that you can follow in your living room.

3. Video games

Yes, video games can be used to do exercise. With certain consoles, you can do dance-offs with family or dance alone, or even a Zumba session. You can also play a fitness-oriented adventure game, or more conventional sports games, especially boxing.

4. Household chores

You’d be surprised at the amount of calories you burn while doing everyday chores. Some activity is better than being totally sedentary, so household chores definitely count as moderate exercise. Take your pick: sweeping the floor, mopping, cleaning windows, vacuuming, laundry, ironing.

Not only that, a regular cleaning routine can help protect your home from disease-causing viruses and allergy-triggering dust and molds.

What are you waiting for? Start your at-home workout routine and strengthen your resistance today.
