Kallang/ Whampoa

Kallang and Whampoa were merged into a single HDB town, it is home to an estimated 106,500 HDB residents. Within the area, the HDB manages 39,194 flats (as of 31 March 2017).
Did you know one of the indigenous inhabitants of Singapore is the Orang Kallang? They constituted half of the approximately 1,000 residents in Singapore at the time of Raffles’ landing in January 1819.
Why Should You Live in Kallang/ Whampoa?
The name Kallang was derived from the Malay term referring to the ‘orang laut’, or sea gypsies who lived in the swamps at the mouth of the Kallang and Singapore River, which was named after the community.
Leisure and Landmarks
The Singapore Sports Hub vicinity is home to two shopping destinations, Leisure Park Kallang and Kallang Wave Mall, as well as a cultural venue, the Kallang Theatre. Other than retail outlets, Leisure Park Kallang also has a cinema, an ice skating rink and a bowling alley. Various other shopping malls such as the City Square Mall along Kitchener Road, Mustafa Centre along Syed Alwi Road and Aperia Mall along Kallang Avenue are also situated within the boundaries of Kallang.
One of the developments is The River Vista @ Kallang, a waterfront project flanking the Kallang River.
Other prominent landmarks in Kallang were the National Stadium and the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The Singapore Sports Hub, which opened in 2014, is located within the Kallang/ Whampoa area, specifically where the old National Stadium used to be. It serves as an integrated venue for Singaporeans to watch and play sports.

KK Women's and Children's Hospital and Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital are located within Kallang.
